The Local Area
Chulmleigh, across the valley of the Little Dart from Rodgemonts, has its roots in a Saxon settlement. Although no longer a market town it has been able to maintain a strong individuality. Bypassed by the A377 and the Exeter-Barnstaple single track railway (The Tarka Line), Chulmleigh has been able to hold onto its historical charm of thatched cob cottages. village pump, narrow streets and fine fifteenth century church.
The Little Dart valley lies between the gentle beauty of Exmoor to the north and the stark grandeur of Dartmoor to the south.

There are good local opportunities for trout and salmon fishing on the River Taw, riding, golf and some fine local walking - the Tarka Trail and Eggesford Country Park to name but two local examples, as well as numerous footpaths and bridleways.
Many artists have, over the years, found a joy painting in this area. We combine with a local artist who runs excellent courses, for all levels of ability, to give a thoroughly worthwhile and relaxing experience.
Good food at excellent value for money can be found at the many interesting and varied pubs and restaurants nearby, as well as further afield.

Further Afield
The old towns of Barnstaple, South Molton and Tiverton, each with its own pannier market, are all within thirty minutes drive, as is the ancient town of Crediton. A further fifteen minutes will bring you to the city of Exeter.
National Trust properties such as Arlington Court, Lundy Island, Killerton and Knightshayes Court are all within easy reach as are some glorious gardens, the most notable probably being the RHS garden at Rosemoor.

The stunning North Devon coastline with its towering cliffs and inviting beaches can be easily reached. View it superbly from the South West coastal path as it wanders past Hartland Point (with Lundy beckoning across the water), Clovelly, Lynton and Lynmouth to name but a few of the places in Devon, on its 630 mile stretch.
Concerts, theatre productions and art centres abound in the area, from the small, atmospheric, very friendly to the more formal theatres in Exeter and Barnstaple as well as further afield.
